The report is based on analyzing the thumbnails of the 740 most popular YouTube videos in 2020.
Almost three quarters (72%) of the thumbnails examined showed a human face, and 88% were colorful.
About 70% of the thumbnails had a title or explanatory text.
According to the analysis, thumbnails for the most popular YouTube videos related to news tended to show negative emotions such as anger, contempt, disgust or fear.
Thumbnails for the most popular home and living videos were more likely to show sadness.
