1. Set up an adSense account.
To make money on YouTube, you need to start with an AdSense account. An AdSense account is the platform on which you receive payments from YouTube. So this is an important step.
It’s important to note that you can monetize more than one YouTube channel using the same AdSense account. So if your brand has multiple YouTube accounts and you want to set up monetization features for each account, all you need is one AdSense account.

2. Become a YouTube partner.
Together with an adSense account, you must now be accepted into the YouTube partner program (YPP). There is a few requirements for joining YPP including:
- You must live in a country or region where the YouTube affiliate program is available.
- You must have more than 4,000 valid public surveillance hours in the past year.
- You must have more than 1,000 subscribers.
- You must all obey YouTube monetization guidelines.
- You must have a linked AdSense account.
If you meet all of these requirements, you can sign up for the YouTube affiliate program. How to log in:
- Sign in to your YouTube account (make sure that account has a linked AdSense account).
- At the top right, click YouTube Studio (by clicking your profile picture).
- If you don’t currently meet the requirements, you can select “Notify me when I’m eligible”. As soon as you have exceeded 1,000 subscribers and 4,000 observation hours, you will receive an email.
- When you meet the requirements, click Start on the Review Affiliate Terms card.
- Once you’ve signed the term, you’ll see a green “Done” sign on the card.

3. Identify the viewer personas.
To create a strong, effective monetization strategy on YouTube, you need to know who yours is target group is – and just as important is who Your buyer personalities are.
While your buyer personality is no doubt similar to the buyer personality you use for other marketing collateral, you may need to make slight variations for the YouTube version of your buyer personality.

1. TrueView ads
YouTube Income: $ 2,600 to $ 41,600 per month
Do you have a great story to tell that also relates to your product? TrueView is for you. TrueView ads allow you to create high quality, longer creative spots that appear alongside the YouTube videos your target audience is already watching. These ads come in two forms: In-Stream and Discovery.
In-stream videos are played “in-stream” of the selected video just before the YouTube user’s selected video. Users can skip this video after five seconds of playback as shown below and jump to its content. In-stream ads can be anywhere from 12 seconds to six minutes in length.

Because of the time you have available for this ad format, it is recommended that you create this type of ad with the views and branding in mind, rather than just clicking on your website. This ad ideally generates revenue from long-term brand awareness resulting from a story people don’t want to skip and a viewer will remember the next time they approach your product or service.
Both In-Stream and Discovery are pay-per-view – you pay YouTube a fixed price for every view the ad receives – and the return on investment (ROI) can be measured in Google AdWords. YouTube shows a new “View” after 30 seconds of playback or a click on the video during playback. If the video is less than 30 seconds, it will capture the views of people who see the entire ad. (We’ll explain in a minute how AdWords manages all three ad formats.)
Clash Royale, a popular gaming app for mobile devices, has created TrueView ads that consistently rank in the top ten most viewed ads on YouTube of the year. The company’s 2017 ad, The Last Second (see below), had more than 110 million views by the end of the year. This campaign contributed to a YouTube marketing strategy that SocialBlade estimates the app developer does to make no less than $ 4,000 a month.
2. Preroll Ads
Like in-stream ads, preroll ads play immediately before a user’s selected video is in the stream. The difference is that this type of ad cannot be skipped after five seconds. These videos also run for a maximum of 30 seconds, although YouTube recently confirmed that advertisers will be limited to 15- and 20-second options starting this year.
Because this ad format requires an ad, advertisers pay per click. So the click is worth it. A preroll ad with an enticing call to action that leads viewers to an appropriate landing or buy page on your website can be a tremendous lead generator for the sales team.
You can also use YouTube’s remarketing options, which allow you to send new videos back to users who have already been interested in your YouTube channel. 3. Bumper indicators
Bumpers are the shortest ads you can buy. These six-second commercials play just before a viewer’s selected video (like the two options above) but are best for brand awareness in the short pauses between long videos or a YouTube playlist that a user may find in Background hears.
Although they may be brief, YouTube found that 90% of their bumper ads are later remembered by viewers. Bumpers are sold through cost-per-minute (CPM) bidding. This means that you pay for every 1,000 games of your ad on YouTube. They are best used as a compliment for a TrueView advertising campaign.
How do you track the performance of these three video ad formats? Once you’ve created a YouTube channel and uploaded your video content, you can open a Google AdWords account and link it to your video campaign. In AdWords, choose the campaign type, ad format, budget, and who and where you want each video to appear on YouTube.

4. YouTube affiliate program
YouTube revenue: $ 723,500 – $ 11.6 million per month
The YouTube Affiliate Program (YPP) allows the site’s most successful YouTube channels to monetize their content by serving ads created and paid for by other YouTube users.
The criteria for this program, which changed in 2018, assume that your channel has reached 4,000 hours and 1,000 channel subscribers in the past 12 months. After you have reached these two milestones, you can apply to join the program using the following steps:

T series is a great example of how volume and consistency can make you a sought-after channel for advertisers on YouTube. This India-based record company releases numerous music videos for songs written and performed in Bollywood, India. And although the company was founded in 1984 and has been on YouTube for nearly 10 years, following this music video strategy has finally given them the opportunity to dethrone PewDiePie (the famous YouTube user who focused on video games) as the most popular YouTube channel in the world – with a whopping 83 million subscribers.
According to SocialBlade, the T-Series makes no less than $ 724,000 a month on its YouTube channel. Much of this comes from advertisers through the YouTube affiliate program.

By posting multiple videos a week, you can increase your viewership, qualify for YPP, and make decent money. YouTube divides advertising revenue between 55 and 45 with its partners – 45% to Google, 55% to you. That means that an advertiser who invests $ 200 in running ads on your channel can bring you $ 110 on the real estate of your videos.
The T-series president attributes its success on YouTube to the fact that the company is not running a project and believes it will make money. Rather, the regular “bets” they place on YouTube increase their chances of engaging audiences and, as a result, increase their following.
5. Affiliate Links
YouTube Income: $ 6,900 to $ 109,800 per month
As a partner there are no conditions of participation – you take advertising into your own hands. This is a great option for YouTube channels that offer reviews and guides, and often recommend new products to their viewers.

By partnering with different brands, you can make money – albeit typically less than a YouTube partner campaign – every time that company makes a sale through a link you post on one of your videos. In this case, you are making income from the company you are partnering with, not YouTube and its advertisers.
Start by joining an affiliate network through sites like Click Bank or the Amazon Affiliate Program and follow the instructions to sign up. Remember that each program receives a different percentage of a sale as commission and your success still depends on the popularity of your YouTube channel.
Travel vloggers can also participate in travel payouts. It is a travel affiliate program that allows you to make money on airline tickets, hotels, tours, and other travel services. The partner commission (in percent) depends on the service you have selected and your sales volume.
YouTube personality Marques Brownlee, whose YouTube channel advertises affiliate links in the screenshot above, is a consumer electronics reviewer on YouTube. This makes affiliate advertising the perfect source of income for their channel, as their advertisers effectively pay for Marques to review their products – and, if the review is positive, promote it to their viewers. According to Recode, Marques also generates revenue through the YouTube affiliate program.
